My research didn’t begin in a classroom.

It began with life asking questions I couldn’t ignore.

One of those questions came in 2003, when my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

I wanted to help.

I wanted to understand what helped the brain heal โ€” and what stood in its way. Those questions led me into the brain, stress, and neuroplasticity.

Then life asked different questions.

So I followed those too.

Over the next twenty-plus years, my research expanded into nutrition, the gut, sociology, women’s lived experiences, compassion, and quality of life. Every season brought a new question, and every answer led to another.

Different questions.

Same destination.

While studying at Stanford’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE), my research into compassion and the brain continued. It was there that everything I’d been researching began to come together.

I realized life hadn’t interrupted my research.

Life had been the catalyst for it.

That’s where Proactive Compassion came into focus.

Not as a theory.

Not as an idea.

But as a way of understanding how our brains, bodies, relationships, and everyday lives continuously shape one another โ€” and how living from the inside out moves us toward a fuller quality of life.

Her For Herยฎ grew from that understanding.

Today, I’m still researching.

Still reading.

Still asking questions.

Because curiosity has never been something I’ve wanted to outgrow.

It’s the heart of my work.
